2016 Proposed Constitution and Bylaws Amendments

The Constitution and Bylaws Committee has proposed a number of amendments for the membership to consider. We will discuss these amendments at the September General Membership Meeting and call for a vote of the membership. I’ve attached the full document, all 16 pages of it. Here is a summary:

  1. Constitution Article III – Membership, Section 4: Adds language of when membership withdrawals are processed.
  2. Constitution Article IV – Section 1: Replaces 2nd VP with Chief Steward and adds VP of Organizing.
  3. Constitution Article VIII – Duties of Officers, Section 1 & 4: Update language for President and Secretary duties.
  4. Constitution Article VIII – Duties of Officers, Section 3: Defines duties of chief steward.
  5. Constitution Article VIII – Duties of Officers, Section 5: Simply duty language of Treasurer. Fixes check signer issue.
  6. Constitution Article VIII – Duties of Officers, Section 6: Updates VP of Collective Bargaining duties.
  7. Constitution Article VIII – Duties of Officers, Section 7: Defines duties of VP of Organizing.
  8. Constitution Article VIII – Duties of Officers, Section 8: Updates VP of Political Action duties.
  9. Constitution Article VIII – Duties of Officers, Section 9: Updates VP of Membership duties.
  10. Constitution Article IV – Executive Board: Grants HCU Board the power to adopt a budget and form Ad-hoc Committees.
  11. Constitution Article VII – Affiliations: Simply language of article.
  12. Bylaws Article I – Dues, Section 1: Update format for Retired and Adjunct members.
  13. Bylaws Article V – Standing Committees: Complete overhaul of article with new list of committees.
